My husband and I both had office jobs in Australia, worked 9-5 (well probably more like 7am-7pm with travel time) and juggled work, school, kids activities, cooking, cleaning etc etc. We dreamed about a different lifestyle, even for a short while, where we could unshackle ourselves from this routine. We put our jobs on hold, packed and rented our house, took advantage of some long service leave, un-enrolled our 9 year old from her local school and landed in Bali with 2 backpacks and our 3 kids.
We travel with minimal belongings, mainly because our five year old twins are too little to carry anything but themselves. We look for basic accommodation that can fit us all in one room ( the three girls often share a large bed) and we all enjoy discovering small islands, snorkelling and playing in the water.
We decided to focus this trip on Asia because of the cost, proximity to Australia and because I have had a long-term love affair with the region and can speak a bit of Indonesian and Malay. We love a little bit of adventure ( as much as you can with 5 year olds) but it’s all about making it easy with kids and enjoyable for us all.
Come and have a look at some of our adventures and our plenty of mishaps at ourasiaadventure.com. I am happy to respond to any questions from other travellers. I try to read other ‘family blogs’ before I plan our next move because let’s face it, when you have little ones in tow , it does direct some of your travel choices.
I hope you enjoy
