Cheap Flights to Europe (50% off)
This article will explain how you can save up to 50% on your flight by booking flights that restrict carry-on baggage and charge for checked bags. If you would like to see more tips on discount travel, follow My Travel Resource here.
If you answer these next two questions with yes, you can save 50% on your flight to Europe. No, I am not kidding.
- Are you looking for discounted travel?
- Can you pack light?
I hope those two questions were easy enough. If you answered no, that is okay. Some people need to bring 3 sets of clothes for each day and 10 pairs of shoes. We get it. If this is you, then head over to Using Google Flights to Find the Cheapest Flight (Save Hundreds) now. This article will not be of much use to you.
If you answered YES to both of those questions then we have great news! Your European vacation does NOT have to break the bank. Eliminating your carry-on bag and limiting the number of bags checked to 1 is going to save you a ton of money. Let’s take a look:
Use Google To Find The Cheapest Flight
I used my Google technique to find the cheapest flights from Dallas (where I live) to Paris for a 1-week trip any time within the next 6 months. This trick brought me prices that are $612 less that the normal cost to fly to Paris at this time! This is the first step I always use to find the best deal from a trusted source.
At first glance anyone not familiar with WowAir would be amazed! A flight to Europe with a short 1 hour and 15 minute layover for $420?! Yes, that is not a joke. However, it is a little bit misleading. You will have to click the arrow to expand the flight information to see some rules and restrictions.
Sacrificed Leg Room
These flights are not going to be the most comfortable ride that you have ever had. This is a cost cutting airline that squeezes the margins to fit the most seats onto that airplane. This 29 inch legroom is 2 inches less than the standard 31 inches provided by United, American, and other major airlines. However, sacrificing two inches of leg room might be completely worth a week vacation to Europe! But we are going to need to keep reading.
Carry-On Baggage? Not So Fast
After selecting your departure flight and returning flight, you will see the option to either book directly with Wow Air or Expedia for the same price of $420. But wait… What is that ? “No overhead bin access.” Now we are getting to the truth of the sacrifices made to travel cheap. You will not be able to bring carry-on baggage onto the flight with you.
Check Your Baggage Ahead Of Time
There is a lot to see here, but it can be difficult to focus when the prices for checking bags are that high. Other than the price, another notable thing to look at is the part that says “________ baggage allowance is not refundable and not transferable. Therefore, if you know that you will be checking 2 bags then buy it online while making your booking. If you are unsure if it will be one or two bags then only pay for one checked bag during the booking, and then log back online at a later time if you need to take two bags. Never wait until you get to the airport to pay for checked bags!!! The price goes from $54.99 to $69.99 just for not checking them ahead of time.
Fees, Fees, And Fees. Is It Worth It?
These types of flights are amazing if you are more focused on your destination and not so much how you are going to get there. If you can pack everything into one bag and do not mind checking it, then you will save a ton of money booking with flights like these. Less leg room, limited baggage, no free snacks, and only $500 sounds completely worth it when you realize that you will be in Paris after a short 12 hours and 20 minutes.
Note that the baggage fees mentioned above are different for various flights with Wow Air. Make sure to go to the “Optional fees and Charges” page on their website to get a feel for how much you will actually be paying.
